Designing
Graphic designers
are responsible for designing how information is communicated.
The forms of communication can be printed, video, film, and
electronically transmitted. Corporate identity, environmental
graphics, annual reports, museum, publication, book, web-page,
and multimedia presentations are examples of what graphic designers
design. The graphic designer is concerned with how communication
is transferred and received, choosing the appropriate mechanism
for distinctness, clarity of information, and appearance.
Grafic designers
work for corporate identity firms, advertising agencies, architects,
graphic and/or environmental graphic firms, book publishers,
multimedia specialists, publication firms, museums, and film/television
animation studios. Graduates also work for in-house design
departments, such as computer software companies; television
stations; utility corporations; manufacturing companies; city,
state, and federal agencies; nonprofit organizations; commercial
retail stores; and educational institutions.
Graphic designing
can comprise of designing advertising visuals, product packaging,
book and magazine covers, newspaper layouts, posters, pamphlets,
brochures and booklets. It also includes designing websites,
computer games, music videos, greeting cards etc. Visualizing
the idea, drawing or sketching it on paper or directly on
the computer, then compiling the whole work together.
The first step
in developing a new design or altering an existing one is
to determine the needs of the client, the ultimate function
for which the design is intended, and its appeal to customers
or users. When creating a design, designers often begin by
researching the desired design characteristics, such as size,
shape, weight, color, materials used, cost, ease of use, fit,
and safety.
The softwares
most commonly used are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator,
Adobe PageMaker, QuarkXpress, Macro Media Freehand etc.
